Colorful Tour from Blood Horse: Irish Acres Farm's homebred Colorful Tour stormed down the rail to tally by 1 1/2 length over Ask The Lord in Saturday's $100,000 Essex Handicap (gr. III) at Oaklawn Park. Luis Quinonez rode the Noel Hickey-trained 4-year-old Illinois-bred son of Tour d'Or, who won his fourth straight race. The victory was his first in a graded stakes.
He completed the 1 1/16-mile distance in 1:46 3/5 over a muddy track before a crowd of 15,483 that watched under sunny skies. Colorful Tour improved his career earnings total to $392,444.

His sire Kingmambo (February 19, 1990 – January 20, 2016) was an American-bred, French trained thoroughbred racehorse and sire. Color: b Height: 15.3
He was sired by the leading stallion, Mr. Prospector, who in turn was a son of Raise a Native, out of the 1999 United States Racing Hall of Fame mare Miesque, who in turn was a daughter of the great Nureyev. Although born and bred in the U.S., Kingmambo raced in England and France for owner Stavros Niarchos. Niarchos owned both a U.S. thoroughbred farm, where his mare Miesque was stationed, and a French operation, where he did most of his racing.
Racing career: 1992: two-year-old season- As a two-year-old, after winning a six furlong race at Maisons-Laffitte racecourse, Kingmambo placed second in the French Group 1, Prix de la Salamandre, the Group 3 Prix Thomas Bryon, and the Group 3 Prix de Cabourg.
1993: three-year-old season- At the age of three, ridden by the American, Cash Asmussen, and trained by François Boutin, he won the Prix Djebel on his debut, beating Zafonic in an upset. He went on to prove himself to be a genuinely top class colt with three Group One wins in the Poule d'Essai des Poulains, the St. James's Palace Stakes and the Prix du Moulin de Longchamp.

Regally bred by the Niarchos family's Flaxman Holdings, Kingmambo was by Mr. Prospector out of the champion and two-time Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. IT) winner Miesque. A champion in France at 3, Kingmambo won the French Two Thousand Guineas (Fr-I), the St. James' Palace (Fr-I), and the Prix du Moulin (Fr-I).
At stud Kingmambo reached even greater heights. He was a truly international sire, siring classic winners and champions in North America, Europe, and Japan. He sired El Condor Pasa , Japanese Horse of the Year; Divine Proportions , European champion at 2 and 3; and Lemon Drop Kid , North American champion older male. He also sired champions King Kamehameha , Henrythenavigator , Rule of Law, Russian Rhythm , Okawango , and Walzerkoenignin.
From an average crop size of less than 64 foals, Kingmambo sired over 85 stakes winners, 50 group/graded winners, of which 24 were group/grade I winners. He also emerged as a top broodmare sire as his daughters have produced grade and group I winners such as Midday , Duke of Marmalade , Camelot , Gozzip Girl , Maids Causeway , and Ruler of the World.

Raja Baba (April 5, 1968 – October 9, 2002) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse who became the 1980 Champion sire in North America.
Background: Raja Baba was sired by Bold Ruler, the leading sire in North America eight times and a National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame inductee. His dam was Missy Baba, a daughter of My Babu, a winner of the British Classic 2,000 Guineas Stakes in 1948 who became the influential sire of forty-seven stakes winners and a damsire sire of ninety-five winners.
Raja Baba was bred and raced by Michael G. Phipps, the son of Ogden Phipps.
Racing career: As a three-year-old, he won the Francis Scott Key Stakes at Bowie Race Course followed a week later by a division of the Delaware Valley Handicap at Garden State Park. At age four, Raja Baba won the Bold Ruler Purse at Delaware Park Racetrack and finished second in the Phoenix Handicap at Keeneland, the Japan Racing Association Handicap at Laurel Park, and the Garrison Handicap at Liberty Bell Park Racetrack.
Stud record: Near the end of his racing career, Raja Baba was sold to William S. Farish III who in turn sold a half interest to breeder, Warner L. Jones. He was syndicated in 1972 in a 36 share deal at $10,000 per share, a figure that his success as a stallion would see rise to a selling price of $205,000 per share on the open market by 1982. Retired from racing at the end of 1972, he was sent to stand at stud at Warner Jones' Hermitage Farm near Goshen, Kentucky. As a freshman stallion in 1976, Raja Baba was the leading juvenile sire in the United States and four years later both the leading juvenile sire and overall leading sire in the United States.
During his career at stud, Raja Baba sired sixty-two stakes winners and two Champions. In 1985, his daughter Summer Mood won the Sovereign Award as the Canadian Champion Sprint Horse of either sex. Another daughter, Sacahuista, won the 1987 Breeders' Cup Distaff and was voted the Eclipse Award as that year's American Champion Three-Year-Old Filly. Sacahuista was the dam of Hussonet who became a highly successful multiple Champion sire in Chile and who in 2002 earned the highest stud fee of any stallion ever to have stood in that country and Gran Zar Horse of the year and champion 3 year old in Mexico Triple crown winner.
Raja Baba's other successful offspring included Is It True, winner of the 1988 Breeders' Cup Juvenile, as well as Grade 1 winners Junius, Well Decorated and Royal Ski, the latter the damsire of the undefeated Japanese runner Agnes Tachyon who became the Leading sire in Japan in 2008.
At the end of the 1987 breeding season Raja Baba was pensioned. He was euthanized at Hermitage Farm in 2002 at age thirty-four due to complications from age related infirmities and was buried in its equine cemetery.

Rushin' To Altar was born in 1999. He was sired by Pulpit out of the Saratoga Six mare Russian Bride. He was trained by Ronald L. McAnally. From Blood Horse Jockey Alex Solis likes what he sees in Rushin' To Altar, a $485,000 Kentucky-bred son of Pulpit he'll be riding in Saturday's $200,000 San Fernando Breeders' Cup Stakes (gr. II) for 4-year-olds at 1 1/16 mile at Santa Anita.
"He keeps improving and his last race was really impressive," Solis said, referring to the colt's nose victory on Dec. 11 at Hollywood Park in an allowance race at 1 1/16 mile. "He got to the lead and started to wait a little bit. I just have to make sure I don't take the lead too early. I haven't worked him lately, but he's a nice horse."
Rushin' To Altar charged from sixth place at the top of the stretch and beat Total Limit by a length Thursday in the $55,000 feature at Hollywood Park.
Ridden by Corey Nakatani, Rushin' To Altar covered 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:15.41 and paid $15.80, $3.80 and $2.10. The victory was the fourth in 10 lifetime starts for Rushin' To Altar and was worth $33,000, raising the 4-year-old's horse's career earnings to $163,590.

Alphabet Soup (March 31, 1991 – January 28, 2022) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse best known for setting a track record for 1¼ miles at Woodbine Racetrack when he won the 1996 Breeders' Cup Classic, defeating both the great Cigar and
Preakness Stakes winner Louis Quatorze. Upon the death of A.P. Indy on February 21, 2020, Alphabet Soup became the oldest living winner of the Breeders' Cup Classic.
He was bred by Southeast Associates, a group led by Roy S. Lerman, and purchased by Californian Georgia B. Ridder. He was a descendant of Nearco, and his damsire was U.S. Racing Hall of Fame inductee Arts and Letters. Purchased privately as a two-year-old by Georgia B. Ridder, Alphabet Soup was late in developing. Mrs. Ridder raced the colt in California, where he began to come into his own at the age of four, winning the 1995 Native
Diver and Del Mar Breeders' Cup Handicaps. In 1996, en route to his triumph in that year's Breeders' Cup Classic, he won three important graded stakes races: the San Antonio Handicap, the Pat O'Brien Handicap, and the San Pasqual Handicap, in which he defeated Best Pal. He also crossed the wire first in the Goodwood Breeders' Cup Handicap but was disqualified and set back to third.
Alphabet Soup raced in 1997 at age six, his best effort coming in defense of the San Antonio Handicap when he finished second to Gentlemen.
Alphabet Soup retired to stud duty, he stood at Adena Springs in Midway, Kentucky. He was euthanized due to chronic kidney disease, at Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement in Georgetown, Kentucky, on January 28, 2022, at the age of 30.

Bred by Crystal Springs Farm near Paris, Kentucky, he was a son of North American Champion sire Deputy Minister and out of the Grade 1-winning turf mare, Anka Germania who captured the 1988 Sword Dancer Invitational over subsequent Eclipse-winning turf horse Sunshine Forever. He was sold by Denali Stud as a weanling at the November 1995 Keeneland Sales to Horizon Stable, a partnership put together by trainer Wallace Dollase. A late developer, Deputy Commander never made it to the 1997 Kentucky Derby. However, by autumn he had matured into a powerful colt who won the Travers Stakes and the Super Derby before running second to Skip Away in the 1997 Breeders' Cup Classic at Hollywood Park Racetrack.
After being retired from racing, Deputy Commander stood at stud in Kentucky at Stonerside Stable and Airdrie Stud, and in 2007 stood at stud at Ballena Vista Farm in Ramona, California. Among his progeny are Grab Your Heart and Deputy Glitters as well as Ten Most Wanted, who followed in his sire's footsteps by winning both the Travers Stakes and the Super Derby.
Due to a decline in his physiological and neurological health, he was euthanized October 7, 2009. Owner: Ballena Vista Farm

Mr. Prospector (USA) x Hopespringseternal (USA), by Buckpasser (USA) Family 16-g A Group 1 winning-juvenile in France, Miswaki did not show quite the same form in the United States as a 3-year-old. In keeping with his fine pedigree, however, he proved to be one of Mr. Prospector's better sons at stud and was particularly noted as a broodmare sire. His best son, 1991 American Horse of the Year Black Tie Affair, was unable to continue his male line, but Miswaki will have an honored place in pedigrees for a long time to come as the sire of the great broodmare Urban Sea, whose son Galileo was the most dominant European stallion of the early 21st century.
